Heather Smith
Soft Tissue Therapist | PhD | CNHC & ISRM Registered
I’m a Level 5 qualified Soft Tissue Therapist with over 13 years of experience and a background in clinical research at the RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital.
I’m registered with both the CNHC and the Institute for Soft Tissue Therapists (ISRM), and I regularly update my skills through continuing professional development. My approach is hands-on, evidence-informed, and person-centred — helping people manage pain, recover from injury, and move more comfortably in everyday life. |
About me
Before retraining as a Soft Tissue Therapist, I worked in the NHS and universities, including six years at the RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry. There, I managed clinical trials in knee surgery and collaborated with physiotherapists, surgeons, and patients — gaining valuable insight into injury, pain, and rehabilitation.
My academic background is in psychology and research methods and neuroscience, which continues to shape my approach to therapy. I understand how pain can be influenced by stress, lifestyle, and posture — and how physical movement supports both mental and physical wellbeing.
Like many of my clients, I’ve experienced long hours at a desk and the resulting pain and tension. That personal experience — along with a lifelong interest in movement, from yoga and climbing to horse riding and swimming — helped shape the way I work now.
My approach is hands-on, practical, and evidence-informed. I tailor each session to your needs and can support your recovery with simple self-care techniques and exercises you can use every day.
Whether you’re managing pain, recovering from injury, or wanting to move more freely, I’m here to help you feel better in your body.
